PSD2 and SCA Compliance

What is PSD2?
The European Union’s second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) is an EU-wide initiative to provide increased security for online shopping through a process called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA).

It is designed to reduce fraud and make online payments more secure.

Why is it important?

Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) is intended to increase the security of online payments and reduce fraud. In order to comply, ecommerce merchants must implement two-factor authentication for all eligible transactions.
Does it affect me?

Shoppers with European Union credit cards may be asked to confirm their identity during checkout (two-factor authentication). Our payment processor, FastSpring, ensures that only shoppers attempting an eligible transaction experience SCA, and only when required.

As a Merchant of Record, FastSpring actively works with a network of payment issuers, acquirers, and processors to ensure optimal implementation of PSD2/SCA, while limiting disruption to the customer experience.
